The Human Artistry Campaign Backs Biden’s Policy

The executive order issued by President Joe Biden emphasises securing, regulating, and building trust in artificial intelligence (AI). Welcomed by the Human Artistry Campaign, the order signifies a significant step towards ensuring a responsible and ethical AI policy, acknowledging the value of intellectual property within the creative community and technological sectors.

The government directive aims to enhance regulation and standards concerning AI, acknowledging the concerns expressed by the creative industries. Instructing various government bodies, it includes measures to address copyright and transparency issues related to AI.

Notably, the order mandates the Department of Commerce to develop guidelines for watermarking and clearly labeling AI-generated content. It also directs the US Copyright Office to advise the President on potential executive actions concerning copyright and AI, exploring matters such as the protection scope for AI-produced works and the treatment of copyrighted content in AI training.

The Human Artistry Campaign, representing over 170 members across the creative and technology fields, commended the inclusion of copyright and intellectual property protection in the order. It praises the initiative as a means to develop a responsible and ethical AI policy fostering innovation while mutually empowering AI and human creativity.

This executive order showcases a pivotal move by the US government to embrace and protect the interests of the creative community, reinforcing the significance of intellectual property within the broader context of AI development and implementation. The order’s proactive stance demonstrates a commitment to fostering a sustainable environment for innovation and growth in both AI and creative domains.
