Airbuds & Audius – New Ways To Grow & Earn From Your Audience

GROW – Airbuds, a new musical social media app, has recently seen incredibly fast growth, especially within the 16-24 age range. It allows users to follow friends and see a constant stream of every song they have been listening to, from a range of streaming services.

Utilising widgets, Airbuds have leaned into the recent layout developments of most smartphones by allowing users to have a display of what their friends are listening to without having to even enter the app itself. Within the app, users are able to react to songs with emojis and post public questions to their followers. The app has recently been running an ambassadors program for students studying in the US to encourage rapid user growth among its target demographic.

The app allows smaller artists to spread through virtual word of mouth faster than ever, with suggestions now not even necessary between friends, no matter what streaming platform they use.

EARN – Audius, a Web3 music platform, recently introduced a ‘music marketplace’ in beta, aiming to revolutionise artist earnings. Through the platform, fans can directly pay artists using their credit cards for music streaming and downloads, with the option to pay more than the set price as a gesture of extra support. Transactions involve real dollars, which convert into fiat currencies for payout, along with the additional aspect of Audius’s $Audio tokens. For every $1 paid by a fan, both the artist and the fan receive a token, creating an innovative payment model.

Currently in beta testing with over 45 artists, the platform has also gained support from independent labels like Empire, Nettwerk Music, Anjunadeep, and Anjunabeats. Additionally, a recent partnership with DistroKid enables seamless uploads to Audius, following DistroKid’s expanded collaboration with TikTok, including TikTok Music.

While Audius boasts 4.75 million monthly unique users (down from 6.4 million in March), the new feature seeks to re-engage users. This innovative payment system is poised to offer artists a new revenue stream, potentially attracting both established artists and rising talents, driving a shift in the music industry’s monetization models. Audius’ moves signify the convergence of Web3 and music, potentially influencing how artists and platforms alike navigate the evolving digital music landscape.
