Songwriters are now using Ai voice generation to better tailor their song pitches. While the ethics of this might be in question to some, there hasn’t been much pushback on the idea so far, since the Ai-generated soundalike isn’t released commercially.
Tailoring vocal sound to match specific artists is not a new concept. Songwriters have long hired vocalists who sound like particular artists, typically at a cost of around $350. However, using generative AI for this purpose comes at a considerably lower cost, offered through monthly subscription fees.
Various soundalike AIs are available in the market, with well-known options like CoversAi, Eleven Labs, Solaria, and Uberduck, alongside numerous others emerging regularly.
Certain singers’ voices are more compatible with AI mapping due to heavy auto-tuning in the final production, granting them a more machine-like quality. Pitch correction technology has improved, but some producers prefer using the simple “Auto” setting, inadvertently making those voices easier for an AI to map, which can be advantageous for songwriters seeking specific pitches.
Although the idea of AI-generated soundalikes was once considered outrageous, it is now gaining acceptance, with publishers contemplating its use to enhance song pitches. If artists are amenable to the concept, AI-generated soundalikes could indeed become the way forward for songwriters.
