Innovate UK, a government-backed agency, has initiated a funding competition aimed at bolstering AI music projects in the UK, offering a substantial £1 million for prospective applicants. Launched on 10th October, the contest will remain open for submissions until 22nd November. Eligible projects must fall within the budget range of £100,000 to £250,000.

The competition’s primary objective is to propel the advancement of Artificial Intelligence products and services throughout the global music supply chain, thereby strengthening the UK’s music sector. Encouragingly, the call for proposals encompasses the entire spectrum of the music industry, from live performances and recorded content to publishing activities.

Beyond financial constraints, successful projects must adhere to specific temporal parameters, spanning a duration of six to 12 months, with commencement of projects mandated by 1st April 2024, with completion slated for no later than 31st March 2025.

In terms of financial support, the Innovate UK commitment is contingent on the size and nature of the organisations involved. Micro or small organisations stand to benefit from funding covering up to 70% of their project costs. Medium-sized entities may secure up to 60% of their expenses, while larger organisations are eligible for funding support up to 50%.

This funding initiative underscores the UK government’s commitment to nurturing innovation within the music industry, specifically harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence to drive progress and competitiveness. As technology continues to reshape the landscape of the music sector, this financial injection aims to position the UK at the forefront of this transformative wave, catalysing the development of AI-driven solutions that resonate not only on a national scale but within the global music ecosystem.
